Summary
Rail transit vehicle propulsion controls in use today vary considerably in design. The components used, however, can be maintained using similar techniques, irrespective of the design variations. Propulsion controls fall into three general groups: switched resistance (e.g., DC cam), DC-DC chopper and DC-AC inverter.
