Standard
Manufacture of Wrought Steel Wheels
Abstract
This standard is intended to supplement the AAR’s Manual of Standards and Recommended Practices, Section G, Wheels and Axles. This standard relies heavily on the AAR’s manufacturing requirements and references its requirements frequently.
This standard specifies those requirements for passenger car wheel designs that are not included in the AAR manual. An attempt has been made to cover all possible requirements related to the large variety of designs utilized in passenger rail vehicles.

This standard covers the minimum manufacturing requirements for multi-wear wrought carbon-steel heat-treated wheels for rail passenger equipment. It does not duplicate the standards established by the AAR, rather, it supplements those requirements with standards applicable to wheels used in passenger car service.
