About this Conference

The Legislative Conference educates members on important federal legislation and policy initiatives; provides members with the opportunity to shape future industry positions and federal transportation policy; provides direction on the industry’s legislative strategy and advocacy efforts with the U.S. Congress and executive branch; and offers sessions with key members of Congress, Administration officials, staffers and Washington opinion makers.

During the 2015 meeting, APTA members visited more than 100 Congressional offices to advocate for a long-term surface transportation bill.  This successful effort led to the passage of the first long-term bill in a decade – the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. With a new incoming administration and significant changes in the Congress, now is the time to start educating the new political leadership on the importance of public transportation and make our voices heard in Washington.

Previous speakers included Secretary of the Department of Transportation Anthony Foxx, Acting Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Therese McMillan, Acting Administrator Sarah Feinberg of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV), Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA), Candy Crowly, Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and key Congressional staff.

Who should attend: CEOs, board members, government affairs and communications professionals, transit operators, consultants, manufacturers and suppliers, local coalition members, and state association leaders.
