Who says life doesn’t get better as people get older? Not over-65 public transportation riders in Illinois, where a change in state law that took effect March 17 allows seniors to ride transit for free.
With this program, Illinois become the second state in the nation offering its senior customers free rides, funded by a one-quarter percent sales tax increase in Chicago and surrounding counties. Transit agencies in Pennsylvania fund their free senior rides with proceeds from the state lottery.
