SPRINTER Carries Almost 13,000 on Opening Day

The North County Transit District in Oceanside, CA, carried nearly 13,000 passengers on March 9, the first day of revenue service for SPRINTER light rail.

The first SPRINTER train left the Escondido Transit Center at 4:33 a.m. with more than 100 passengers on board, heading 22 miles to Oceanside, CA. Construction and landscaping is nearly complete at all 15 SPRINTER stations, with a few exceptions.

The SPRINTER contract operator, Veolia Transportation, counted 12,921 passengers throughout the day.
