FTA Honors Transit Agencies for Ridership Growth

This Week in Passenger Transport

March 17, 2008

Federal Transit Administrator James S. Simpson presented awards to 10 public transportation agencies for their innovative ways to boost ridership at a program on the first day of the APTA Legislative Conference.

The transit agencies received FTA’s “Success in Enhancing Ridership Award” for such ideas as getting college law enforcement students to work as transit security, using bus graphics designed by art students, and paying a local radio station to create a jingle that runs as a free public service spot. The winning agencies reported ridership increases of at least 5 percent.
