Jeremy Rifkin, president of the Foundation on Economic Trends, will be the featured speaker at the third and last in a series of webinars being offered as part of the APTA TransitVision 2050 initiative. The free, 90-minute webinar, on the theme “Energy and the Global Economy: The Transportation Outlook in a Changing World,” will begin at 3 p.m. Eastern time Thursday, November. 15.

Other webinar participants are scheduled to include Lee Sander, executive director and chief executive officer of New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority; Clarence Marsella, general manager of the Regional Transportation District in Denver; Angela Iannuzziello, P. Eng., president, ENTRA Consultants; Janet Kavinoky, director, congressional and public affairs, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and executive director of the Americans for Transportation Mobility Coalition; and a representative from the World Resources Institute.

Rifkin is the author of 17 books on the impact of scientific and technological changes on the economy, the workforce, society, and the environment. He has lectured at more than 200 universities in about 25 countries in the past 30 years, and has been a fellow at the Wharton School's Executive Education Program since 1994. National Journal has named Rifkin as one of 150 people in the U.S. that have the most influence in shaping federal government policy.

The APTA Executive Committee created the TransitVision 2050 Task Force to develop a long-term vision of public transportation’s role in the future of the nation’s surface transportation system, and to make certain that APTA’s strategic plan and governance structure are properly aligned with APTA’s role in pursuing that long-term vision.

The task force has identified three broad areas of America’s future that will be shaped in large part through public transportation: economic health, sustainable environment, and quality of life.

People interested in participating in the free webinar can register by clicking here. Users who already have a MyAPTA account can click on “TransitVision 2050” in the upper left-hand corner of the page, while those who do not can create one by clicking on Register Now.
