The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is very pleased that the U.S. House of Representatives today appropriated $8.975 billion for transit funding in FY 2007. This is the funding level for public transportation authorized under the SAFETEA-LU transit and highway legislation.

APTA has always said that public transportation is a bipartisan issue, and we greatly appreciate the bipartisan efforts of all the members of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (T&I) who signed a letter in support of this action. We also appreciate the bipartisan effort in the Senate in support of full funding for 2007 transit and highway appropriations. We trust that the Senate will vote favorably in that regard so that critical surface transportation infrastructure investments can remain on track.
