Senate Conferees Offer $318 Billion Funding Level

June 25, 2004

(Download in Adobe PDF format)

Congress agreed to another temporary extension of TEA 21, which will run through July 31. Meanwhile, at the second meeting of the TEA 21 Reauthorization Conference Committee on June 23, Senate leaders formally offered House conferees the Senate's $318 billion six-year funding level for TEA 21 reauthorization. The offer came after Senate rejection of a suggestion by House Republican leadership to write a reauthorization bill at $275 billion over six years. The House conferees are expected to respond to the Senate offer by July 7, the date of the next scheduled Conference Committee hearing.

Action Call!

We need your help during the Congressional Recess June 25 to July 5!

  1. Reauthorization. Agreement on the overall funding level is key to producing a six-year reauthorization bill. We need you to contact your Congressional delegation's district office - especially members of the House - and urge them to support the Senate's $318 billion, six-year funding level with $56.5 billion in guaranteed funds for transit!

  2. Appropriations. Urge your House and Senate congressional delegation to work with House and Senate appropriators to fund transit at the highest level possible in the FY 2005 appropriations process. Point out the level of FY 2005 funding for transit in the House-passed reauthorization bill (H.R. 3550) - $7.75 billion, and in the Senate-passed reauthorization bill (S. 1072) - $8.54 billion.
