Fall 2003 Local Coalition Grant Recipients

Arizona Citizen Action - (Phoenix/Tucson, AZ)

To establish a Phoenix Transit Vote Coalition, register thousands of new voters; and to conduct nonpartisan voter registration of bus riders at Tuscon bus terminals with the cooperation of Sun Tran, the local transit agency, in hopes to support the public transportation initiative due to be on the local ballot in November

Campaign to Build Illinois Transit (IL)

Partner with local transit districts and advocates on projects to highlight "Let's Get Moving" and develop key themes for investing in transit; officially release the "Let's Get Moving" report.

Citizens for Progressive Transit (GA)

To enhance communication between the transit authority and the local citizens by facilitating public outreach meetings intended to record, filter, and extract public input in support if greater investment in public transportation.

Colorado Mobility Coalition (CO) & Transit Alliance (CO)

To jointly mobilize our members and allies to strengthen the support for transit and transit funding in the TEA-21 reauthorization bill, and specifically to strengthen the support of Senator Wayne Allard, Rep. Beauprez and other Colorado Congressional delegates.

Connecticut Association for Community Transportation (CT)

To host a regional meeting/workshop in Western CT to bring together concerned citizens, public transportation providers, regional planning agencies, council of goernments, and representatives from targeted pro-transt organizations; and to host a statewide public transportation meeting featuring Rachel Simon, author of "Riding the Bus with My Sister."

Florida Association of Coordinated Transportation Systems (FACTS)

To focus on the promotion of increased investment for public and specialized transportation services, with emphasis on activities that affect small urban and rural areas and transportation for disadvantaged persons

Idahoans for Transportation Choices (ID)

To build upon TEA 21 Reauthorizatin platform and reach more Idaho citizens and policy makers, organizing an effective campaign that demonstrates the broad public support for the platform.

Kentucky Public Transportation Association (KY)

To produce a directory of service providers and a one-page fact sheet describing the state's transit services and its customers, to be useful for advocacy efforts.

Minnesota Public Transit Association (MN)

To expand coalition membership and mobilize hundreds of transit riders and advocates to contact the MN congressional delegation urging them to ensure strong transit funding in the reauthorization of TEA 21

Missoula in Motion (MT)

To engage Missoula citizens and members of the Way to Go Club (a community wide program for people who pledge to bus, walk, bike, or carpool to wrok at least one day a week) in local and national education and advocacy campaign

Missouri Citizen Education Fund (MO)

To mobilize newly registered transit riders, hold accountability sessins with legislators, and develop a media strategy to bring public attention to the need to maintain funding for public transportation

New Jersey Transit Vote Coalition (NJ)

To register, educate, and mobilize 5,000 transit riders to vote at or above that of the general population, raising awareness among NJ residents and supporting more funding for public transportation

New York Public Transit Association (NY)

To use the PT2 program materials to develop and implement a program to train transit managers on how to improve public perception of public transportation and communicate the contributions of transit to local communities

Ohio Public Transit Coalition (OH)

To organize, mobilize, and implement a series of in-district local action grassroots commuications to members of the Ohio delegation, urging them to support TEA 21 reauthorization at the highest possible level.

Save Our Transit (PA)

To educate, organize, and mobilize bus and trolley riders of Port Authority of Allegheny County to advocate for the reauthorization of TEA-21

South Plains Transportation Alliance (TX)

To engage in targeted effort for advocacy meetings with strategic members of the Texas congressional delegation and to educate key community constituencies on the value of the local CitiBus' services.

TransitWorks (MA)

To help support coalition initiatives that promote MBTA and promote transit generally with customers, with the community, and with Congress.
