Anchorage Citizens Coalition Anchorage, AK Transit Works, a program of the Anchorage Citizens Coalition, is a group of transit riders and supporters formed in 1999 to organize against service and funding cuts and advocate for additional funding service and transit consciousness. Looks to broaden it's current database of contacts and develop an email newsletter devoted to the local transit funding issue.
Baldwin County Public Transit Coalition Robertsdale, AL The Baldwin County Public Transit Coalition organizes the 2005 Regional Transit Summit, goals of which are to alert the public to the problem of inadequate public transit in the six counties, develop a vision for the development of effective public transit and a plan to move that vision forward. Money goes to underwrite the event
Birmingham Regional Transit Advocacy Group Birmingham, AL Comprised of community leaders, transit dependent riders, business leaders and professionals; this group's mission is: to raise awareness of public transit, improve the quality and accessibility of transit services, and work to secure a permanent funding source for our transit system that serves the metropolitan Birmingham area.
Arkansas ACORN  This local transit advocacy coalition will work to win greater support for maintaining and expanding basic bus service from local governments in Pulaski County. Will also work with the Arkansas delegation in Washington DC to emphasize the importance of mass transit as Congress reauthorizes the TEA 21 bill.
Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX)) Orlando, FL Funding for this coalition will be used to develop the TEA Advocacy and Educational Program. The goals of this community-based program is to educate the community on public transit including the funding, operation and federal programming and secondly, to develop awareness and support of key decision makers on a regional vision for this transportation system.
Citizens for Progressive Transit Atlanta, GA Through advocacy, CPT identifies the challenges to increasing ridership and takes the necessary proactive steps in diagnosing and resolving these issues. As the only alliance for public transportation advocates in Atlanta, it serves an important role in bridging the gap between APTA and the public on whose support its progress depends.
Coalition for the Advancement of Regional Transportation Louisville, KY Grant funding will go towards preparing, printing and distributing two 'car-free guides'. Oriented to two specific neighborhoods, these guides will promote walking, bicycling, and transit ridership as an alternative to driving.
Coalition for Transportation Solutions Bend, OR For this Coalition, grant funding will go towards supporting efforts to persuade voters to vote yes on a ballot measure to create a Bend Area Transit District (Measure 9-27) that will be on their local ballot this November 2.
Committee for Balanced Transportation Honolulu, HI The purpose of this coalition is to educate the public about the advantages and disadvantages of various transportation options in the State of Hawaii. Grant funding will significantly contribute to supporting those legislative efforts at all levels of government designed to enact the institutional framework and funding mechanisms needed to build rail.
Friends of Transit Phoenix, AZ Funding request is for the deferment of costs associated with Friends of Transit's Third Annual Conference. (Held in February, 2005.)
Michigan Public Transit Association East Lansing, MI Funding will go towards support of 'Let's Get Moving', a coalition created to coordinate efforts of the numerous local transit advocacy groups and coalitions throughout Michigan. Funding will allow for further expansion and development of the coalition's base through development of specific deliverables to Michigan's Congressional delegation and state legislature.
East Tennessee Community Design Center Knoxville, TN Funding assistance is for the Mass Transit Rail/Buses Task Force of the 'Nine Counties. One Vision' organization. Grant will be used for the implementation of its Public Outreach Action Plan and foster the development of a regional transit coalition.
Ohio Public Transit Coalition Columbus, OH Funding request is for the support of efforts to organize, mobilize and implement a series of in-district local action grassroots communications to members of the Ohio Congressional Delegation during the August recess through the end of the year. The goal of this effort is to continue to urge Congressional support of TEA-21 reauthorization at the highest levels possible.
Oklahomans for Public Transportation Oklahoma City, OK Funding will be in support of the Oklahomans for Public Transportation's advocacy training with marketing and brochure development and creation of the OPT website.
Oklahoma Transit Association Oklahoma City, OK Grant funding will go towards the implementation of the Oklahoma Transit Business & Industry Coalition. This coalition would be a group of private sector business and industry representatives from each of the five Congressional districts, with the purpose of further establishing and verifying the economic impact of OK public transit in the view of all state and federal elected officials and other local leaders.
Save Our Transit Pittsburgh, PA The purpose of this coalition's project is to apply the organizing and advocacy efforts on behalf of state funding to efforts to reauthorize TEA-21 and general advocacy for federal funding of public transportation. Particular purposes for the grant is for leadership development of interns and volunteers.
Transit Riders League- Baltimore Baltimore, MD Assistance will go towards the support of TRL's membership building and public educational campaigns. The grant will help efforts to recruit more active members who can push for short-term improvements in the regional bus system and who can support the long-term goal of building the Red Line of the Baltimore Regional Rail System.
