A Multimodal Tour Of Central Florida
Sunday, August 3, 2008
The American Public Transportation Association has
scheduled its annual Intermodal Operations Planning
Workshop in Miami on Monday, August 4, through
Wednesday, August 6, 2008.
A signature element of the annual workshops is the
Multimodal Tour offered to workshop participants who
arrive early, conducted by Gannett Fleming’s Tom Hickey.
The Multimodal Tours offer transit professionals with the
opportunity to experience how different types of transit
systems and modes from a “passenger-eye” perspective.
This year’s Multimodal Tour concentrates on Central
Florida. The Central Florida Regional Transportation
Authority (“Lynx”) has long been a national leader in
creative multimodality, from their LYMMO bus rapid
transit line and their approach to passengers facilities to
the manner in which they market their services to
prospective commuters. Disney Transport provides an
extensive network of multimodal guest services — entirely
privately owned and operated—using a fleet of over 1,000
buses, monorails and ferries centered on high-volume
passenger facilities. We will look at both systems
operations and facilities as well as hear about their plans
for expansion and improvements.
The Multimodal Tour of Central Florida is a full-day affair
departing from the lobby of the workshop hotel about
6:00 AM (subject to change). Meal breaks are planned as
part of the itinerary. There is no charge for the tour
other than the cost of the bus charter and your meals.
Complete details will be forwarded to participants as soon
as the schedule is finalized.
Participation is limited to 40 people. Please contact
Tom Hickey via e-mail (THICKEY@GFNET.COM) or phone
(610-306-3066) to reserve your place or for more
information.
