Committee Overview
The Human Resources Committee provides a forum which promotes leadership, innovation, collaboration and information sharing among public transportation professionals at all levels who are interested in the development of human resources needs, programs, services, and support that are needed to make the transit industry successful.
The committee works to assist its members with their roles as effective change agents and strategic business leaders within APTA's member organizations. The committee make-up represents a wide diversity of APTA members, expertise, interests and successes.
At the 2005 Annual Meeting and Expo, the committee voted to reorganize its subcommittee structure to best combine and address the needs of its members and the industry. The Human Resources Committee now has two subcommittees - labor relations, and workforce development. The workforce development subcommittee combines the former employment, employee development and training, and organizational development subcommittees.
In collaboration with our members, industry experts and industry partners, the Human Resources committee and subcommittees sponsor workshops, professional development programs, webinars (online seminars), and special events at APTA's conferences and throughout the year. These events, plus the development of new industry resources and on-going initiatives and resources further advance the industry needs for shared lessons learned, success stories, best practices and proven results.
In January 2006, the Human Resources Committee proudly launched a new release of APTA's Workforce Development Clearinghouse, a major component of APTA's brand new Online Communities and Learning Center. The Online Center is a web-based resource designed to facilitate online exchanges and sharing of information, online meeting, and online learning.
